Join acclaimed historian Heather Goodall for ‘Georges River: Hidden Stories, Hidden Heroes’, a rich history talk taking place at Bankstown Arts Centre, on Thursday 24 Nov from 7-8pm. The talk explores the strength, resilience and commitment of First Nations and culturally diverse communities and their fight to save the area’s local wetlands from pollution and devastation.

The stories include the continuing role of the Dharawal and Dharug peoples, local working-class English, Irish and Chinese communities, as well as the more newly arrived Greek, Vietnamese and Palestinian migrant groups to the area who have all shared in looking after the river and its surroundings as they learnt about their new homes. Guests are invited to enjoy light refreshments at the Bankstown Arts Centre courtyards beforehand, commencing at 6:30.

This is a FREE event, however, bookings are required. Heathers talk is a part of the Bankstown Biennale 2022, SubTerrains which explores a range of diverse and hidden stories about Bankstown’s landscape through the lens of first nation artists.
