We invite you to stand with us, the Traditional Custodians of Murujuga, in our international fight to save our World Heritage nominated rock art from Australia’s most polluting project – and to find out how you can play an important role here on Gadigal land.

Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek has just nominated the ancient Murujuga petroglyphs for World Heritage listing, but soon she will make a decision on Woodside's massive gas expansion, which would be located on the same site.

The equivalent of 15 coal mines, the Scarborough gas project would be Australia’s biggest polluter – and would cause irreversible damage to the rock art and the climate.

The Murujuga petroglyphs are a sacred part of our culture and Ngurra (Country). Our rock art is more than 40,000 years old, and contains important cultural and spiritual knowledge. They contain some of the earliest known representations of the human face, and record knowledge of past sea level change and extinct megafauna.

It's our role as custodians to protect at all costs. It's not only about protecting the Ngurra, the animals, the water and all living creatures that are a part of our existence, it's also about protecting the existence of humanity itself. Our connection to the Ngurra is the biggest part of who we are. It runs through our veins – it's our everything.

That's why last year, we addressed the United Nations in Geneva. And now, you are invited to join us in Redfern, and find out how you can play a role in the Environment Minister's decision here on Gadigal land:

Traditional Custodian Raelene Cooper (Mardudhunera language group)
Traditional Custodian Mark Clifton (Mardudhunera language group)
Sydney-based climate campaigner Sarah English

There will be plenty of time for questions and discussion, and we look forward to enjoying some refreshments with you afterwards!
