The exquisite strings of The Metropolitan Orchestra (TMO) led by Chief Conductor Sarah-Grace Williams unites for a mouth-watering Sunday afternoon concert within the ornate surrounds of Marrickville Town Hall.
The flavoursome program includes the gypsy-inspired folk tunes of Béla Bartók’s Romanian Folk Dances. This series of six short works is ranked amongst his most popular compositions to create a delectable entré to this feast of music. After more than two years of delays, TMO are excited to present the world premiere from Australian composer Mark Grandison, titled Cellar Door. This work for string orchestra features eight full-bodied movements designed to take the listener through a carefully curated musical tasting.
The performance reaches a succulent pinnacle with what is arguably Antonín Dvořák’s most popular work, his Serenade for Strings in E. Composed in just two weeks during a creative spell in 1875, this work promises a rich and fulfilling finale to a beautiful musical banquet.
